Application Fields: Telemedicine and E-Learning

The application areas of the streaming can be many, as results from the following list:

  1. distance training both live and on demand;
  2. transmission of events as meetings, conferences, public demonstrations, sport events, interviews, video clips, concerts, etc.;
  3. presentations of companies and/or their products/services as advertising spots, video-catalogue and video-manuals, etc.
  4. video-portals containing information of public use, the weather forecast, the information on traffic, radio/TV transmissions, etc.
  5. information on home/office security.

With this technological solution is therefore possible:

  1. live transmitting Internet events, meetings, conferences, etc.;
  2. transmit institutional/commercial audio-visual contents viewable 24h/24h “on demand”;
  3. realize interactive audio-visual contents for the on line personnel training or as sales support;
  4. retransmit in real time via Internet the signals of television and radio broadcasting stations.

A pair of application examples are the TELEMEDICINE and the E-LEARNING.

TELEMEDICINE

The telemedicine is the union of audio, video and information technologies that allow to transport health, medical treatment and sanitary education in space and time.

With this new treatment mode is the doctor that goes (electronically) to the patient and not vice versa. The instruments used in this ambit allow, in fact, the tele-consultation, the therapy at distance, the remote analysis diagnosis, the remote didactics, the consultation between colleagues and sanitary institutions.

Omniabit, as AV-IT systems integrator, gives telemedicine solutions like videoconference systems, and videophones for the connection between the patients home and the treatment centers, systems of audio and video recording of medical operations, systems of acquisition, visualization, filing and sharing of medical images, systems for the remote monitoring and video-surveillance of the patient.

Besides the supply of stand-alone systems, our company can:

  1. study and design the LAN/WAN network to whom are connected the set-top-box at the end (that is "Medical Imaging Network");
  2. develop customized applications (as web interfaces easy to read and browse) for data and audio-visual information sharing and exchange between the different locations as hospitals, treatment centers and patients homes.

E-LEARNING

The e-learning is the training via Internet.

Typical characteristic of the e-learning is the quicker learning at low costs, a larger access to training processes and a clear accountancy management of the involved users.

The e-learning is available through many instruments as:

  • the video transmission;
  • the Content on Demand (CoD);
  • virtual classes.

The e-learning being among those new applications for band intensive use, weights in an unexpected way on the network in terms of band width and of real time interactions.

A solution for this problem is the use of the streaming technology: this last one, because fruition method of the distance training, allows, as already said, both the live video transmission and the Content on Demand (CoD) without having necessarily bring an overload of the IP network.

The virtual classes are the last fruition methodology of the e-learning.
These last ones can be applied only in ambits with large availability in terms of band, because a great data traffic is generated, due to the interactivity in real time among locations geographically distributed. In the design step you have to consider that the virtual classes, in WAN ambit (Wide Area Network), are exacting in terms of band availability.
