Case History: Snow-Weather Center of Bormio

For the Snow-Weather Center of Bormio we have studied and developed a video-communication application: the proposed solution can be defined as solution of videoconference enlarged for the public of the Internet. The system consists in a series of equipments present in the Bormio head office: those equipments give the possibility of participating to the events even in active mode to persons not-present in the head office, if they are qualified to do it. For active mode is intended the transmission of audio-video information to the rest of participants to the conference from these qualified users.

The persons that intend to participate to conferences have to fill in an order on-line form with their personal data. In the case the demand is accepted, the applicant receives a confirmation e-mail containing username and password, data to use to have access to the on-line events.

After having selected the desired conference, the user access to a page where is present both an intervention panel that gives him the possibility of make answers to desired participants, and the integrated audio and video streaming of the selected conference. The contents of that streaming are decided from the chairman: he can decide of simply sending his presentation or sending live images of the conference. Always into this page there is a connection to the PowerPoint presentations relative to the conference. The user can view those presentations through the browser.

In the case a user wants to participate in active mode to the conference, he has to use the panel described above, sending an intervention demand. The user receives as answer some technical parameters for NetMeeting settings to have no communication problems. At this point he can participate in active way to the conference, even if not being physically present.
